What requirements are needed?

To be able to apply for this permit you must have a minor child of Italian nationality who resides in Italy and still have parental responsibility for them.

Cohabitation is not necessary. You can have this permit for example even if the minor lives together with the other parent.

Where do you apply for this permit?

You must submit the application to the Police Headquarters (Questura) of the area where you live.

What documents do I need to request it?

• Certificate showing that you are the parent of the Italian citizen
• Certificate showing where your child lives in Italy
• Document from the juvenile court showing that you can still act as a parent
• Valid passport

What can I do with this residence permit?

With this permit you can:

• Work (self-employment or employed work) with a regular contract
• Get residency in the municipality where you live
• Register with the National Health Service (NHS-SSN) and have a general practitioner
• Travel in the Schengen area, if you have a valid passport

And when does the permit expire?

Before it expires, you can

• renew it until your child is a minor.
• convert it into another permit (for example for work or study)
