It is a special residence permit for victims of domestic violence. "Domestic violence" refers to acts of physical, sexual, psychological or economic violence within the family or between current or former partners, regardless of cohabitation.
The permit is granted when, during investigations or criminal proceedings for serious crimes related to domestic violence, a concrete danger to the victim is established. These crimes include:

The permit is issued by the Police Chief (Questore) (meaning you apply in person at Police Headquarters (Questura), not with the postal kit), based on:

This permit is very useful also because it allows you to remain in Italy during the proceedings against the alleged abuser, so you can be an active participant during the process.
It lasts 1 year and is renewable.
