Permit for Minor age (for UASC)

What is this permit?

The residence permit for minor age is given to foreign children under 18 years old who are in Italy without parents or other close relatives. The permit is also given if you arrived without documents or irregularly.

Who can apply for it?

This permit can be requested for the simple fact of being a minor (being under 18 years old) and not having parents or other close relatives in Italy.

The application can be made by:

• The minor themselves (with the help of a lawyer or operators from the center where they live)
• The social services of the area
• The guardian (the adult person who takes legal care of the minor)

If the guardian has not yet been chosen by the court, the application can be made by the person in charge of the center where the minor lives.

Where do you apply for this permit?

You must submit the application to the Police Headquarters (Questura) of the city where the center is located where you live.

📋 What documents are needed?

• 4 passport photos
• Revenue stamp of 16€
• Hospitality declaration with ID document of the center manager
• Guardian's document appointed by the Juvenile Court (if already exists) or declaration from the manager of the center where the minor lives

How long does this permit last?

The permit lasts until 18 years old (until reaching adulthood).

What can you do with this permit?

With this permit you can:

  ✅ Enroll in school (elementary, middle, high school) even without other documents

  ✅ Register with the National Health Service (NHS) and have a general practitioner 🏥

  ✅ Starting from age 16, work (with a regular contract - self-employment or employed work, respecting child labor regulations)

✅ request to be placed in a reception center for minors

What happens when you turn 18?

Before turning 18, you can change the permit to other types of permits such as:

• Work permit
• Study permit
• Permit for job seeking
• Family permit, if you have all the necessary requirements
• Administrative continuation permit
