What is this permit?

It is the residence permit for those who entered Italy with a clearance and a visa for employed work, through the Annual Immigration Quota Decree. It is issued after signing the residence contract and sending the postal kit.

Who can apply for it?

  • Non-EU citizens who have obtained a work clearance through the annual immigration quota decree
  • Who entered Italy with a visa for employed work
  • Who have an employer in Italy who made the request

How do you apply?

It is requested with the postal KIT.

  1. After entering Italy, within 8 days of arrival, go to the One-Stop Immigration Office (at the Prefecture) to sign the residence contract
  2. Fill out the postal kit (form 1 and 2) and send it from an authorized post office
  3. You will receive an appointment at Police Headquarters (Questura) for fingerprints
  4. The Police Headquarters (Questura) will tell you when to collect your permit

What rights does it give me?

  • ✅ You can work as an employee
  • ✅ You can establish residency in the Municipality where you live
  • ✅ You can register with the National Health Service and have a general practitioner
  • ✅ You can travel in the Schengen area with passport (maximum 90 days every 180)
  • ✅ You can apply for the family reunification

How long does this permit last?

The duration depends on the employment contract:

  • 1 year for fixed-term contract
  • 2 years for permanent contract

When does it expire and can I renew it?

Yes. The renewal request should be submitted to the Police Headquarters (Questura) preferably before expiration or in any case within 60 days from the expiration date. The application is made with postal KIT.

What happens if I lose my job?

If at the expiration of the permit you don't have a job, you can apply for a permit for job seeking job seeking with a duration of one year, by proving registration at the Employment Center.

How much does it cost?

The costs for issue and renewal are indicated on the documents page. The postal payment slip is 70,46€ (or 80,46€ for permits with duration longer than one year).
